Morning has finally broken on Albert Square after a week of EastEnders episodes that took place across a single evening – the night of Vicki Fowler and Ross Marshall’s wedding reception. While the newly married couple had a fun time after the jeopardy of their nuptials (aside from some dodgy prawns supplied by Alfie), the evening was life-changing for a number of other Walford residents.
The party might be over, but the drama is only just beginning, as the special week has set up a host of stories that will continue to play out in the weeks and months to come. Here is what you can expect from the Square this summer, as the dust settles on the night that changed everything.
1. Jordan’s recovery
Arguably the biggest twist from this week was the shocking accident that took place outside the marquee, with Ian unknowingly reversing into little Jordan and leaving him lying unresponsive outside. When the young boy was eventually found by other residents, including his horrified mum Chelsea, he was rushed to hospital and soon taken into surgery as he’d suffered a serious spinal injury.
Jordan’s operation was a success, but the doctor warned that it will take days or even weeks to determine how well the child will recover. In today’s (4 June) episode, Chelsea sat by her son’s bedside and worried about what the future might hold, should Jordan be left with a permanent injury.
Next week, Chelsea is told that there is a chance Jordan’s rehabilitation might not work. With a long journey ahead for Jordan and his loved ones, will he make a full recovery?
2. Ian’s fate
Following this accident, Ian faced an unexpected nightmare when he was arrested for drink driving and causing a road traffic collision. Ian only had one pint of beer at the wedding and was adamant that he was safe to drive, but it was confirmed that he was slightly over the legal limit so shouldn’t have been behind the wheel.
It is an interesting story that has generated a lot of discussion online, as Ian wasn’t alone in incorrectly thinking that driving after one drink is always legal.
Ian was last seen sitting in a police cell in a vulnerable state, after Jack warned him that he will have a lot of enemies in Walford if Jordan doesn’t recover from his injuries. His future as a councillor could already be under threat, after only being elected last month, but things might get even worse – could Ian be charged with a crime?

3. George’s struggle
In the concluding episode of this week, the story of George and his evil dad Eddie came to an explosive climax. When confronting Eddie about his nasty treatment of Gina, George discovered the truth about his secret deal with Nicola, where he gave her cash in exchange for a place to stay outside of prison in his dying days.
As Eddie continued to make racist remarks towards his son, he suddenly started choking on his medication. Instead of helping his dad, George stood by and watched while Eddie struggled to breathe and even drank the water that he was desperately reaching for. Eddie died, just as George vowed to bury him in an unmarked grave like he never existed.
Tensions are high between George and Nicola in the aftermath of Eddie’s death next week, and George lets out his emotions by returning to the boxing ring – resulting in a worrying incident. Will George’s final moments with his cruel dad come back to haunt him?
4. Lauren and Mark’s passion
Over the last few weeks, Lauren and Mark have formed a secret working relationship, teaming up to sell dodgy cars as a money-making scheme. The pair have grown closer over time, something which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Lauren’s dad Max, and their serious chemistry threatened to bubble over this week when they came perilously close to kissing.
Lauren pulled away from Mark in the end, and shortly afterwards, she returned to the reception and shared a heartfelt moment with Peter. Later in the evening, Lauren and Mark shared another charged moment as she made clear her heart was with her husband. She then had a candid chat with Max, admitting to her dad that he was right when he said she was just like him.

5. Denise’s cancer
On the day of the wedding, Denise was told the devastating news that she had acute myeloid leukaemia, a form of blood cancer. She returned to the Square in a daze and disclosed her diagnosis to Yolande in incredibly powerful scenes – but her priorities soon changed when she heard about Jordan’s accident and she rushed to the hospital to be by Chelsea’s side.
Not wanting to add to her family’s turmoil, Denise chose to keep her cancer news from her loved ones, though she told her partner Jack the heartbreaking truth at the end of the evening. Next week, Denise continues to keep her diagnosis under wraps, but things get trickier when the doctors tell her she needs to be admitted to hospital immediately to begin urgent treatment.
By refusing to start treatment, Denise is putting herself in huge danger, and Jack urges her to change her mind. This week’s episodes mark the start of a powerful storyline that will continue for the rest of the year, deservedly putting the exceptional Diane Parish centre stage again.
6. Max’s secret
Max’s rather spontaneous decision to propose to Cindy at the reception ruffled a few feathers, and he was ultimately rejected by his girlfriend of only a few weeks. This sent Max into a spiral, and he ended up drowning his sorrows alongside Priya, who was also hurting after Ravi ended their relationship for good and exited Walford earlier in the day.
Back at his flat, Priya seduced Max and the pair slept together, in dangerous scenes. However, when Max later reunited with Cindy, she decided to accept his marriage proposal after all, unaware that he had just cheated on her.
The events of this week could have huge ramifications for the New Year’s Day flashforward episode, which will be resolved in six months’ time. Is Cindy Max’s mysterious bride, or will there be another twist before the end of the year? Could Priya be pregnant after her secret passion with Max, or could it be Ravi’s baby instead? Or could these just be red herrings, with more revelations to come ahead of 2027?
