Netflix’s newest season explores what happens after the long-awaited wedding fans celebrated in the Season 6 finale, with showrunner Patrick Sean Smith teasing a softer but still emotional chapter for the beloved couple.

“We’ve only just begun to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple,” Smith shared. “Season 7 explores the honeymoon phase as they build their life together on the farm.”

Of course, this is still Virgin River, meaning romance never comes without challenges. But fans can apparently relax about one thing: Mel and Jack are not heading toward a breakup storyline anytime soon.

“I can’t imagine creating a scenario where you think Mel and Jack are going to break up,” Smith explained.

Instead, the new season focuses on deeper emotional stakes, family questions, and the realities of building a future together — including possible conversations about parenthood.

Alongside the newlyweds’ next chapter, Season 7 also introduces several new faces, including Sara Canning as medical investigator Victoria and Austin Nichols as someone connected to Mel’s past.
